COLOR DOPPLER ULTRASOUND OF THE PELVICAL CAVITY BLOOD VESSELS

Color Doppler is a modern ultrasound diagnostic that accurately measures the flow of blood in the blood vessels of the uterus and ovaries. During this ultrasound examination, the resistance index (RI) and the pulsatile index (PI) are measured. The examination is performed by a transvaginal approach (placing a probe in the vagina) and lasts about 20 minutes.

INDICATIONS / WHY IT IS DONE?

For the purpose of further investigation, when the classic ultrasound method discovers various changes in the muscle layer of the uterus (myoma, adenomas, sarcomas, etc.), changes in the mucous membrane (thickened endometrium, polyps, etc.), cysts or tumors of the ovaries. By using the doppler color method, one can notice the difference between benign and malignant tumors.

HOW IT IS PERFORMED?

  • Transvaginal ultrasound approach implies the introduction of a probe into the vagina (previously the probe tip is covered with an ultrasound gel, and a special rubber cover or condom is loaded onto the probe). The probe is a small plastic device that sends and receives ultrasonic waves. By this approach, the uterus and ovaries are close to the probe, and a doppler record of each blood vessel and the specific resistance index (RI) and pulsatile index (PI) are detected by means of a color Doppler effect.
  • Malignant neoplasms (malignant tumors) are significantly more brittle than benign tumors and have a reduced resistance index (RI) and a large pulsatile index (PI). Good-natured creations (benign tumors) have normal vessels of blood vessels, and therefore a higher resistance index.

Based on these characteristics, the color Doppler method distinguishes the benign from malignant tumors.

POTENTIAL RISKS

Ultrasound examination of the breast is a completely harmless, effective and painless method and does not carry any risk.

PREPARATION

  • A few days before examination, do not use vaginal therapy (vaginal and vaginal creams).
  • It is necessary to urinate immediately before examination to adequately test (it is necessary that the bladder is empty).
  • Take with you all previous medical records.
