Liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses vacuuming techniques to remove fat from certain parts of the body, such as the stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, or region of the neck. Liposuction allows the proper formation of these parts of the body. Another name for liposuction is liposculpture or liposuction. Liposuction is thought to be not a classic weight loss method and is an alternative method. If you are overweight, effective weight loss methods can include exercise, a proper diet or bariatric surgery that works very well in Bel Medic. If you have a stable body weight and inadequately distributed fat alluvion in most parts of the body, you are a great candidate for liposuction that you can do in our hospital. The procedure usually lasts several hours depending on the scale.
INDICATIONS / WHY IT IS DONE?
• Liposuction is used to remove fat from various parts of the body (stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, hands or region of the neck).
Liposuction can be used in breast reduction.
• Deformities on the skin, stretch marks or cellulite cannot be removed by liposuction.
• Liposuction reduces the number of cells in a particular region. The amount of fat tissue to be removed depends on the region from which the fat tissue is removed and the amount of fat tissue present in that region. The result after liposuction is permanent if you maintain a stable body mass. After liposuction, the skin adjusts to the new body shape. If you have the tonus and elasticity of your skin, it will be adapted to the changes and will be firm and tight.
• Liposuction is not recommended for people who have coronary disease, diabetes or a weakened immune system because these conditions increase the risk of complications.
HOW IT IS PERFORMED?
• Before the liposuction, the surgeon marks the region of the body to be treated with liposuction. In the process of preparing for intervention, a surgeon can paint a region that will be treated before and after. There are several surgical techniques for liposuction. The procedure can be performed in a regional (anesthesia limited to one part of the body) or general anesthesia.
POTENTIAL RISKS
• Like any surgical procedure and liposuction carries the risk of infection and bleeding. Possible complications may be:
• Incorrect body contour. Your skin may be inadequately adapted to the removal of fat tissue due to lack of elasticity and tonus. These changes can be permanent.
• Liquid can temporarily accumulate in the “pockets” above the skin. This phenomenon can be removed by draining.
• After the procedure, you may temporarily feel the numbness that occurs as a result of irritation of the temporal nerve in the region of its inertia.
• Very rarely, skin infections can occur.
• Injuries to the internal organs are very rare complications.
• Mass embolism may be a complication of this procedure and constitutes an emergency. In the fat embolism, the fat tissue enters the bloodstream and travel to the lungs or the brain.
PREPARATION
• Before surgery, you need to talk to your surgeon about the risks and complications that this procedure involves. The surgeon will review your complete medical records. You should inform the surgeon about all medicines, dietary supplements and herbal preparations you use.
• In consultation with the surgeon, it will be necessary to stop temporarily before using the medications that affect the blood clotting process (Aspirin, Plavix, Farin, Sincum, Sintra, NSAIDs).
RECOVERY
• It is anticipated that some time after liposuction you feel pain, you have a swelling or bruises at the place where the procedure was performed. After a few days, you can return to work, and after few weeks you can re-engage in various physical activities.
• If necessary, a surgeon will prescribe a painkiller or an antibiotic after a procedure in order to reduce the risk of an infection. It will take few weeks after surgery to wear tight clothing that puts pressure on the treated region and reduce the swelling. During this period, it is expected that you notice the irregularities of the contour of the body that will be withdrawn after a few weeks.
